”La sape” is a Congolese fashion subculture that originated in the copying the clothing style of colonial dandies by oppressed Congolese workers. Today extravagant sapeurs that stroll the streets of Kinshasa and Brazzaville get a lot of admiring looks. But do people know the colonial origins of this movement?
